I remembered my late mum once beat me in front of the house door - TopicsExpress

I remembered my late mum once beat me in front of the house door at blk 105 just because I wore something that displeased her. I was angry back then but never hated her. Now I laughed thinking about it, feeling grateful even. She explained to me (when she calmed down of cos), Ibu pakai tudung jadi ibu kena tegur apa anak ibu pakai. (I put on the hijab therefore I need to be conscious what my children puts on too.) To be fair, my mum do not expect me to wear Muslimah either just something decent. She was always particular about dressing and appearance, her own and her childrens. My father dresses well too. She is not into fashion just wearing appropriate clothes to different events or places. She would expect the girls to keep our hair neat and our face powdered. My mum is not those who puts on heavy make up or exaggerated hijab either. Just powder, lipstick and standard square hijab. Yet, when she goes out, some of our relatives teased her Datin. Maybe because of her gold tooth that was done when she has not much knowledge of Islam. Heh.. When I started modelling, I learnt make up. She was interested in filling up her eyebrow without plucking. I once asked her why she don want to pluck. Her reply is simple, Nak cantik pun tak payah langgar sharia. (Beauty do not need to sacrifice sharia.) Of cos I did pluck my eyebrows back then, now I am more comfortable leaving it be. I remember my mum always asking me to go tudung shopping with her almost every time. Her favourite place would be eating at Hjh Maimunah and shopping opposite the tudung store after. I wished I had don the hijab before she passed away. Perhaps we could have shared tudung tips, whats new and nice but I know, we will in the end still sticking to the basic cos we just love simplicity. From my mum, I learnt beauty is when someone loves her a lot. Beauty is within her, simple and not seeking attention. Beauty is Islam. I wish some day my daughter or daughter in law would look at me the same way. In Shaa Allah.
