I remembered something like this years ago when grandma passed away. Got music gamelan and loud one and all the process were like this one. Quite impressed with hows Balinese reaction when someone in that village ( Banjar ) passed away especially the one with long age ( grandma passed away at 114 yrs but very healthy one ) people were quick, prepared all those things ceremony very quick, prepared foods for people , family of the deceased were just sit there or involving if its ritual, thats all. Different caste, different style of cremation. - Many people wrong thought if Hindus caste particularly Bali, means there wasnt equally among human being, miss understanding. Actually caste is about souls. Soul ranks. - And why there is cremation ? actually cremation were only for Priest, Kings, Royals, Knights , long long time ago, thousands years ago. Why only those ranks ? caused at that ages people sometimes steal corps of great people to gain their strength etc, hence by cremation it shouldnt be problem any longer. - The heart of the person is the organ took long to be ash if the person had a great pure heart, grandma took more than 5 hours - Why used music ? death is to be cheers for the person and family as it means reunite with God ( lets not talk about Karmapala in this case which will result reincarnation ) - Not allowed to cry, as the reason is same, its great day, great day for balinese isnt wedding day , but death, hence famous as Puputan ( fight til death or suicide / harakiri in Japan ) as its embarrassing if alive but lost face, one should no fear to die in the name of grace whether its about nation or pride First thing couldnt imagine how that would be of grandmas cremation, scared as it wasnt machine cremation like in crematorium, but in fact when watching it there got no fear at all. Only the mistaken was i wore India sari and sit on mineral water box and everyone stared at me due sat on their deva :) During bathing grandma, put clothes on her body including all those sew money coins , loud band, walked to cemetery, watched men prepared the fuel for cremation, watched the process of cremation, separated among bones and wood ash, sprayed the ash to the sea, ritual called the spirit, and so on....truly nothing feared nor scared as its first time for me.. DNA is the caused ... probably lol, well at least i had part of Bali blood in me beside East China, Javanese, India. Mix soup. lol
