I rescued a male 4 yr old Shih Tzu mix about 3 weeks ago. He is so sweet and so far only one problem. I live in the country on 7 acres. We have about 2 acres fenced in for personal use (the rest is for the horses). There is a gate halfway down the driveway which we keep closed so the dogs cant get out. The newest arrival has decided he will go to the gate and look around like hes trying to figure out how to get out. When he starts that way, I call him to come but his brain shuts down and keeps going. I am concerned that he will try to climb out. That is the only time that the wont listen to me. Any suggestions? Should I work on him responding with treats? His former never took him out without being on a leash, but with the room I have I dont want to have to leash him everytime.
