I respectfully decline the ALS challenge. I am very happy to see - TopicsExpress

I respectfully decline the ALS challenge. I am very happy to see that so much money has been raised and in such sporting way - Im looking at you, Domenic, and the buddy of yours who upped it with a front loader and two-ton-truck. According to some articles, the ALSA has received 10X the donations they did this time last year. I have instead donated to something more local - I made a donation directly to one Mr. Arthur St. John, a 94 year old Market Basket associate who, instead of enjoying the retirement and ease he so rightly deserves as an elder and a veteran, has worked at the Stratham store for over 22 years. And now, due to family in-fighting and multi-millionaires scrabbling for more zeros, he is out of work. Thanks to the generosity of many, he can at least continue to pay the bills. In fact, due to the amount raised, Im hoping that he can even afford to ask for less hours once the Market Basket debacle is resolved. EDIT: I received incorrect information before that misattributed another elderly employees story about a wife with Alzheimers to Mr. St. John, as the Seacoast Online clarified that Mrs. St. John passed away in 2002 and that they had a wonderful 54 years of marriage. However, I stand by my donation. At 94 years old, he should be able to live comfortably doing whatever pleases him, whether its walking his dog or bagging groceries.
