I return to London today after a fantastic visit to Karachi where some of the most wonderful friends, family and people reside. I am saddened by the continuing blood letting , the unabated violence and the un ashamed political set up . I leave specially disappointed in Imran Khan , for whom millions turned out in the searing heat , in the midst of violence and bomb blasts , who stood in queues for several hours to cast their vote .......alas , even as a credible opposition leader, I did not see one statement about the sad state of Karachi , no call to the government to step up and protect the lives and sanctity of this city and its people , no long march , no demand for action . I did read statements about KPK of course, where the violence is a lot less and is partially because in their misguided traditions of hospitality , the people of KPK have allowed Chechens, uzbeks and Afghanis to plot war not only on other nations but within Pakistan - It is sad indeed when innocent women and children die but in a war, that is collateral damage and based on choices made. What has Karachi done to merit such indifference ? I leave as always with a prayer for my city and for all my loved ones, for all the fantastic people of Karachi , a prayer of hope , of your safety and for sanity to prevail
