I rode to Mount St. Helens Ntl Monument yesterday with some people - TopicsExpress

I rode to Mount St. Helens Ntl Monument yesterday with some people in my motorcycle club. I never get tired of visiting that place. Our group traveled two lane roads as much as possible so we could take in some twistys along the way. The ride was cool (40-50 degrees) but the sun was bright- a beautiful day. Mt St Helens was snow capped with its gaping crater fully exposed. No steam yesterday. We ran into melting snow about 4000 feet up. Naturally we slowed and weaved our way through it. The final four miles to the observatory was gated off due to snow covered pavement but no matter, we still had a great view. Remember, this 12,000+ foot dormant volcano blew off 4000 feet of it top in 1981 and sent its mountain side cascading down the valley below for miles. Words cant explain the majesty of this event. You leave with renewed respect for the amount of incredibly destructive power a volcano can unleash. Ill return later this spring to visit the observatory and listen to the rangers commentary (if its still there). I learn something new each time.
