I sat and watched the last patch of trees by Spring Trails being cut down this morning. Then I went home and cried. I dont expect any of you to understand my tears. They are just trees... but not to me. I have lived on this road my entire life. 37 years. My dad has lived here his entire life. The 6 oak trees in my front yard were planted by my grandfather. I have lived next door to my grandmother my entire life. It kills me that she has to witness what has become of our road. For those of you that know me and have talked to me about the construction, you know that Im a little bitter. But more than that, I am absolutely heartbroken. My hurt is what is still to come. The Grand Parkway, HEB (that you are all so excited about)...the new Wal Mart, the shopping center going up by Fox Run, Marios Mexican restaurant, the new medical clinic at Spring Trails... Its an end to a life that I have known for over 30 years. Its the realization that lifelong neighbors will get tired of the traffic and tired of not being able to pull out of our driveways and one by one they will sell and new shopping centers or fast food joints will be built and the day might come that I will have to leave the only home I have ever known to never see it again. I wish I still lived in a time where people would laugh at the name Riley Fuzzel and ask where is that?
