I sat on my porch earlier today drinking coffee. The birds were singing even though it is cloudy, raining, and nasty outside. I thought, “Why are they so happy?” Then I realized that birds don’t know the difference. Every day is a blessing to them and they sing praises to God all day. Man worries about family, work, retirement, world events, and even whether to play golf this weekend or not. Man worries about death as he gets older and what he will leave behind. In some areas, man worries about where his next meal will come from. Birds, on the other hand, worry about nothing. They fly high in the clouds or low to the ground and find food because God provides for them. There is nothing that compromises the happiness of birds except when man decides to get rid of them. God created man to be worry free. Everything man needed was provided. Why didn’t man follow the example of the birds and other animals and remain free? God created man to be different from the other animals. He created man in His own image. He gave man free choice. God wanted man to sing praises to Him all day like the birds; but He wanted man to choose to do so. Turns out that the most intelligent animal in God’s creation isn’t as smart as the Dodo bird. With all our intelligence, we humans miss the true meaning of worship. When birds sing praises to Him all day and don’t have a clue why, then we have missed the point. We try to squeeze Him a little bit on Sunday between weekend ball games. All this from watching and listening to birds singing.
