I sat on the couch as my nephew was sitting by the doorway, on a stool, having breakfast. He was discussing some plans for the day and mentioned something about some volunteer work he was doing with Ceres, a non profit kitchen preparing and delivering extremely nutritious meals free of cost to cancer patients in the North Bay. They had delivered over 275,000 meals since their genesis in 2006. My friend Lisa was sitting next to me. She misses her nephew, Ryan who recently left his body from the long struggle with cancer. She was one of his care providers during the last year. She looked at my nephew and with moist eyes she said, Thank you for the wonderful dinners you prepared for Ryan. We all enjoyed those meals so much. They were filled with love. Thank you. My nephew smiled and said, Youre welcome. The volunteers at Ceres live by four operating principles: Love Centered, Heart Guided We are committed to expressing love, trust, respect and integrity in our lives, work and organization. Everything Matters Nothing is left out. We work to have every action and choice lead to the greatest positive impact. Young People are the Future Young People are intelligent, responsible, capable, creative and caring, and must be central participants in shaping our collective future. The Universe has a Purpose Everything is connected, and life continually invites us to experience gratitude, abundance, connection, community and healing. To learn more about them: ceresproject.org
