I saw Captain Phillips tonight. Transplant rejection is a process in which a transplant recipients immune system attacks the transplanted organ or tissue. When watching a film, I equate accents to transplanted organs. At times my immune system is soothed, and my mind is free to process the movie. In others, the accent is so unexpected, so foreign, my brain is attacked and not free to enjoy the rest of the movie. Perhaps thats what happened here with Tom Hanks. I realize its not a popular opinion, and I wanted to love it, but did not. There was some terrific supporting acting, however. It moved to the bottom of the Best Picture Nominee list for me.
