I saw Into the woods Last night, and it was good, not as dark, as I remember the theatrical play was. Meryl Streep stole the show, as well as Emily Blunt. I did not know Chris Pine could sing, but his character was nicely cast, as once again a cocky captain, oh, ahem I mean prince. Johny Depp as the wolf has a very small part girls, so If you are going to drool over him with a tail wearing eyeliner in a zoot suit, that will not last long, since his song seems extremely creepy to red riding hood as it was intended to do. I have no plans of any wolf costumes, in the future from this. The scariest part of this film was Cinderellas face shape, she looked like an alien to me, No offense to Anna Kendrick, but perhaps putting on about ten pounds or so, may have made her not look so much like a child. Im pretty sure Lila crawford could fight her and crush her in in one punch, if it came to that in this film. Guys, Do not go see this movie with your girlfriend if you do not like musicals, you will want to pull your hair out ten min. through the film. The whimsical overlapping songs that go back and forth between characters and story lines, will repeat in your head over and over, even when you sleep. Stephen Sondheim, music and lyrics are very complexly entwined like vines within the forest of characters and you may want an axe to get out of this if you are not familiar with his work. I liked the films costumes by Coleen Atwood, who has worked with Tim Burton on many of my favorites such as Ed Wood, Edward Scissorhands, Alice In Wonderland, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, and many more of Depps movies. I liked SWEENEY TODD better when it comes to a musical. This movie I would suggest if for theater lovers who appreciate musicals and or are open to experiencing a story filled with all the fairy tails you once knew, sewed together into a twisted plot, that you would not expect.
