I saw The Grand Budapest Hotel Wednesday night, and I gotta admit, I just did not get it. It was weird, farcical, very stylized... but its moments of dark humor just were not all that funny, imho, and I found I just didnt care all that much about any of the characters. This is the kind of film that will receive Oscar nominations for Achievement in Set Design or Achievement in Costume Desgin, maybe Cinematography, but the Wes Anderson film is just too much of a weird fantasy relying on a clichéd and kind of preposterous script. Visually, there were elements of Stanley Kubrick meets Tim Burton, but thats a victory of this films style over its substance.
