I saw a friend share a post the other day which made me stop and really think about it. The post asked everyone to answer in just 1 word what they hoped Heaven was like. I knew there was not a singular word that I could reply that could answer that question. But it did make me think about what I hope Heaven is like. What do I hope Heaven is like if God finds me worthy of it? Ive often heard about mansions, streets of gold, no tears, no sorrows, etc. Strange as this may sound, I hope Heaven is more like earth. I want everything that God granted us in earthly life pertaining to emotion and experiences to be welcomed there also. I want just a little rustic place. One I have to clean and paint. I want to have to mow the grass and plant the flowers. I want to have to cook. I want to plant my own food and taste it. I want to need food. I want to smell the dirt as I help my grandmother dig up potatoes. And scream if by accident I pick up a slug. I want to watch my uncles shaking the apple trees for the jam my aunts will make. I want to have to help throw out the rotten ones. Because I want there to be rotten apples in Heaven too. I want to hear the sound of laughter as children play. And if one stumps their toe I want to hear them cry. Because, like laughter, crying to me is necessary. Even in Heaven. I want to go fishing with my Grandfather. And I want the fish to, more often than not, steal my worm. Just like they do now. I dont want wars but I want to be able to argue about who gets the last cookie. I want thunderstorms and snow. The type that keeps everyone sitting inside in front of the fire drinking hot chocolate. I want fire. I want Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy. I want my husband, my children,my parents, my grandchildren, my siblings, my grandparents, my aunts, my uncles and my cousins. I want to know my family. And I want to love them more than I may love others. I want to smell the rose. And I want there to be things that will remind me to hold my nose. I want bicycles, sleds, basketballs, crayons and jump ropes. I know every pastor will tell me Heaven will be nothing like this. But the question was.....what would you like Heaven to be like? God has given us such a glorious place on earth. I hope Heaven includes the best of it.
