I saw a homeless man in town today, clearly carrying what he owned - TopicsExpress

I saw a homeless man in town today, clearly carrying what he owned in a backpack. I was in the library and saw him walk by outside and thought it was very unusual to see him in this small town (about a mile from the Interstate). I was actually thinking I should offer to buy him a sandwich at the deli next door. But by the time I left the library, a sheriffs deputy had stopped him. I went to the gas station next door and the cashier said that the man had been bothering kids outside the convenience store and he had called the cops. Next thing I knew, there were 3 sheriffs deputies talking to the man. I didnt want to interfere with what was going on, but I thought, why doesnt somebody just buy the guy a sandwich? I dont know if he was just asking the kids for money, or if he was mentally ill or something and was acting strange and scaring them. He was acting normal when I saw him walk by. I know the cops were just doing their job, but I noticed what seemed like a different attitude toward the man from the cashier, a young guy. And I thought, I hope youre never down on your luck. Why did everyone seem to want to get rid of this man, or do something to him, when maybe all he needed was something to eat? Havent they (who presumably consider themselves to be good Christian people) heard Jesus say, “Whatsoever you do to the least of my people, that you do unto me.”? I dont know how this ended. None of them were there when I passed by again later.
