I saw a quote from an American who was living in the rain forest - TopicsExpress

I saw a quote from an American who was living in the rain forest with natives. They said how much easier it was to build a home there, you didnt need a permit and If it falls down on you, its your own fault. This reminded me of how the government is often responsible for forcing us to do things that are less natural, less efficient, and ultimately more destructive to our environment. A lot of people imagine free market supporters of being dirty and greedy, but in truth a libertarian way of life can be as better reflected in a hippy commune than someone who works with heavy government interference, in the financial sector for example. Freedom doesnt mandate a particular lifestyle though, its the business of an intrusive government to do that. If you want to cut down trees on your property and built a house from your own renewable resources? Youll probably have to deal with the government. You want to start a garden in your front-yard? The government might object. You want to raise some chickens to provide your own food? Yeah, they might not like that either. You want to buy a super fuel efficient car? The government might have a problem with that as well. They might tell you what you can eat or drink, or what sort of medicine you can take while theyre at it. The main problem is that even when the government is wrong, they always think theyre right. If we want to be able to do what we think is best, to live a life that we believe to be the correct way to go about things, we must rid ourselves of intrusive and restrictive government first. - Philip
