I saw my last baseball game of the season last night, as the PawSox won the opening game of the Governors Cup finals by a score of 3-2. This pitcher Edwin Escobar, whom the Sox got for Jake Peavy, is excellent. Once again he threw into the 7th, surrendering just 2 runs. Hes a big lefty with good control of a fastball that hits the mid-90s. Rusney Castillo, the $70 million man, struck out in his first two trips, lashed a single, got caught stealing by like 5 feet, then made another out. He went 1 for 4 with no assists and few put outs, but the Boston Globe gave him top honors in its game headline; the Globe story also credited Travis Shaw with a home run that he did not hit (he did hit a warning track SAC fly.) The Sox weathered a bases-loaded crisis in the top of the 9th to take a 1-0 series lead. Leaving McCoy, I spied an apple tree by the parking lot. I snatched an apple and bit into it, cool and crunchy on a Fall night. My seat-mate, Susana Cullina, said: Did you just put that into your mouth? This from a person who had eaten pig parts smooshed up and molded into the shape of a turd! All-in-all, a great way to leave the season.
