I saw witnessed a situation today that killed me inside. It involved a mother and daughter. The daughter looked to be about 5 at the most and was drinking a 20oz soda and eating candy. Which the mom called a snack. And just thought Id share this.So most of you on here know that Im a diabetic. Type 1 to be exact. No, not the type where if I just exercise Ill be ok. After the last 3 years of this adventurous journey Ive been on with my body Ive told myself my New Years resolution is to at all costs keep my health as my #1 priority. Its been a struggle Ive been in and out of the hospital numerous times. Ive passed out and Ive found that Ive tripled the number of doctors visits that a normal person has. Ive had many close calls and have been woken up a number of times throughout the night hanging on for dear life. By the way a blood sugar level of 21 is REALLY bad! I poke my finger about 8 times a day and wear a pump on me 24/7 which has a needle that sticks inside my body until I need to change it. Its a fake pancreas as I like to call it because mine doesnt work. My eyesight has changed about 5 times within the last 18 months and some of my nerves dont work properly! Ive pushed through it all and its definitely a struggle to work the schedule that I do... But I do it!Luckily I have a person in my life who has helped me throughout this entire journey. Hes helped me manage things and get back on track when I fall into denial at times. Please please please! Take diabetes seriously. I know many of you joke about it and think its ok to have your kids eat whatever the hell they want. Its not! I was that person... Id devour candy like it was going out of style. There is no cure and millions of people suffer from the same thing on a daily basis. Im not looking for sympathy but please pause for the cause and really think about the choices you and your little ones make.
