I saw you again on the train tonight, Vance. Been seeing you recently, which is funny because I didnt know you nearly as well as some. I suppose better than others, but not like the rocket boys you used to fight with side-by-side and rock with face-to-face in the sweaty music, howling dogs cruising the dead streets in Cuban heels and crow-black leather. My memories of you are almost all rough-edged, a string of black-eyed vignettes, tattered sleeves and broken down shoes. Your price tag always some double barreled disaster, coming down that achingly long hallway towards me dragging situations and stories behind. Been a long time gone. So, its cool to see you, well, some not-you, on a train, kicked back and reading the paper. It does make me miss you though. Wherever youve gone off to, I hope you found it.
