I see Rockhampton Regional Council is promoting Disaster - TopicsExpress

I see Rockhampton Regional Council is promoting Disaster Preparedness. This is a good thing, Im not knocking it. Its not enough though and I hope Council is doing more. For example, its now 5 years since the Koongal bushfires and I hope some lessons have been learned. Its all very fine to say residential homes should be prepared for bushfires and so should homes on acreage. But what about the non-residential parts of acreages? What about vacant acreages? Have all the owners of the acreage lots wedged between suburbia and the National Park/State Forest been contacted? Have they all been co-opted into burn-off regimes? If not, why not? Will they be? Is Council bringing them into the fold? Is it even Councils responsibility? Which agency or body is responsible for this? Is it QFRS? There are lots of hectares in those urban fringe land banks, and often they are not well-managed, and become a conduit for fires (both into and out of the NP/SF). Id like to see The Morning Bulletin run a story on this issue, lets not wait til another big bushfire to think about it again.
