I see so many posts from disheartened moms and dads feeling that the Teal Pumpkin Project in some way failed. Im here to say: Guys! LOOK WHAT WE DID! In just a few months there has not only been increased allergy dialogue among us in the allergy community but in the greater country and even worldwide. This was an awareness campaign and we were trailblazers! Just because you may not have seen any teal pumpkins besides your own (which was the case for me) doesnt mean people didnt start making changes, in thought and in action. Think of the kids and parents who saw *your* pumpkin and stopped for a minute to think. And then think about the potential of people who dont have allergic kids themselves but provided nut-safe or allergen-safe(r) options but didnt have a teal pumpkin. Certainly we put out the teal pumpkins because our families are directly affected - but just as you can support breast cancer research without wearing a pink ribbon, so too did people support our children and our cause without the teal pumpkin. So, CONGRATULATIONS! May this be the first of many years of teal pumpkins - until theres a cure and we can throw them out! P.S. For the first year in 9 years of trick-or-treating, my PA/TN son had about an equal number of safe and unsafe candy - and remember, we didnt see any teal pumpkins! YAY!
