I see stuff like this a lot, some of it I can agree with, other parts I really cant. Do what you love, but take time to build a safety net. There is no greater love than comics and character designing, but I realize that a lot of what I do is competing with other people who are just as good as I am. For that reason, I am always making sure I have my ass covered. If you are working comics and it isnt making you money, and you cant pay for something take another job full time or on the side so you dont go under and so you can handle it when life throws you curve balls. A lot of times with comics its feast or famine so you should be able to handle both. If out of college you cant find a career in your field immediately, you should take other jobs so you can build up to what you want ideally.
