I see that they are asking for an extension for the development of the Montebello hills. Anyone else unhappy about 1200 homes planing to be built up there? My feelings? Not that anyone asked (and I live right next to the hills), the hills should be made into a park. A park complete with walking/hiking trails, bike paths, and horse trails. Of course a football field because Grant Rea just doesnt cut it. But the big selling point, like Griffith Park, put in a venue. A small theater, 1500 - 2000 seat. This will bring in money from ticket sales, parking fee, food/drink/merchandize sales, and more. Also this will create long term jobs such as ticket sales, ushers, parking attend, event coordinator, managers, cleaning and maintenance, audio/visual, and more. It doesnt stop there either, Before and after the show patrons will go to Applebees, BJs, and the fast food places thereby spending/leaving more money in Montebello. As far as sound/noise, the theater can be position so the sound heads towards the Mall and freeway. There is already easy freeway access and the MTB buses can have an express line from the 3rd street/Atlantic metro station to the venue. This might take up the same space as the homes but, unlike homes, there wont be humans around 24/7. That also helps with environment/animal restoration. How do we get the money to build the theater? Well, almost all venues are sponsored like Staples center. Nokia, Verizon, and so on. Since the hills were used by Chevron we can ask them to sponsor the theater. The Chevron Theater in Montebello, has a nice ring to it. Anyone else like this idea? Anyone know where to go with this idea? Is it too late?
