I see trouble brewing. A Banting Bazaar this Saturday in Cape Town? Oh, the bad karma. Oh, the whatnot-footprint. I see pale vegetarians and vegans descending en masse from Noordhoek, Tokai, Observatory and Ou de Molen Park. Mostly white people of course, the only group who actually has the time to work through endless lentil curry en aubergine soufflé recipes. Armed with beetroot (and iron tablets), they will pelt those bloody vegetable grenades at them. The blood that will flow will not be the blood of innocent animals, slaughtered at the altar of greed, but those of red vegetables, the humble beetroot. The one that apparently gives white people red cheeks. The screams of the metaphorical abattoir will be heard as they toyi-toyi to the sounds of Jennifer Ferguson singing Suburban Hum. God help us all, but I get the idea shes moved on to other galaxies many millennia ago.
