I seem to be a fount of ideas that I never act upon. Only one of me, and I am constantly dreaming of things I wish I could do, or that would be done by others. I am well past the need for personal agrandizement, and now only hope to attract other people to the causes I believe in and am working on. My comrade-in-arms and confidante, Natasha Johnstone, is my sounding board and critic. She helps me develop and refine campaigns, strategies, and ideas. She long ago suggested I set up a clearing house site for activists to share their concerns, thoughts, ideas and talents; and the opportunites to help one another. Part of the project would be a laundry list of ideas that anyone could run with. The most important campaigns I envisage are: 1. The creation of student recruitment and leadership development programs on school campuses, along with an online political training website. The Animal Rights movement needs to focus on the next and future generations of activists and leaders. High school and college campuses are the logical choice to organize and recruit. This is my primary interest. I hope to enlist those animal organizations with the resources necessary to adequately pursue this agenda. 2. Campaigns for two constitutional amendments: One which would prohibit businesses from making political contributions to candidates and gifts to public officials. The second which would guarantee the Right to Vote for all Americans. Both of these efforts are grandiose proposals, but possible to accomplish. But even if unsuccessful, the opportunity to educate the public, debate the issues, and generate political pressures should bring about some reforms. And perhaps even provide Liberal candidates with agendas upon which to campaign. These campaigns are well beyond my individual abilities to ignite, but should be of interest to Liberal organizations and activists working on a wide variety of issues. Animal Rights would certainly benefit from any limitations on corporate involvement in pubic policy, and a Right to Vote effort would ensure that Liberal constituencies would be able to participate in the electoral process. If you have thought or suggestions about these or other campaign proposals, please let me hear from you.
