I seem to know as many lapsed Catholics as active ones. If I were a lapsed Catholic now, it wouldnt be hard to give my reasons for why. Its not that I have any disagreements with the teachings of the Church, its that growing up in the Post Vatican II Church Christian formation was in a word terrible. For this I largely blame the most liberal factions of the Church and for me the religious instruction I received in grade school largely from nuns, was a mix between voodoo and folk history. There is much that is beautiful about the church and we have been so obsessed with guitar masses and other idiocy that we have not properly educated Catholics in the theology of the Church. The average Catholic is complete defenseless in the face of a Protestant Evangelical.
