I sent in a complaint to the Independent Press Standards Organisation about the Daily Mirrors article about the new years eve punching incident and I think it would be a great idea if as many people as possible could follow suit. If you are unaware of what article Im talking about it is this one: mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/shocking-moment-woman-left-bloodied-4907260 In that article they totally lied about what happened during the incident. In order to make it easier for you to send in a complaint I will copy and paste my complaint to them below. Quote: Clause 1 (Accuracy) To whom it may concern, The Daily Mirror on January 5th published an article titled Thought this picture was shocking? Read what online hate mob said about New Years Eve attack in which they portrayed the woman in the story as merely a victim when in actuality she attacked the man in the story first. Here is the quote from their article in question: A young woman left bloodied and in tears after being punched on New Years Eve has been trolled by an online hate mob who blame HER for being attacked. The victim, said to be a 17-year-old student, was pictured in the Mirror with blood streaming from her nose following the incident in Newcastles notorious Bigg Market just minutes into 2015. Scaffolder Michael Baptist, 19, was caught on camera throwing the punch and was cautioned by police over the weekend. mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/thought-picture-shocking-read-what-4921174?ICID=FB_mirror_main But their previous article on the story admits that the woman attacked the man in the story first and started the entire altercation so she was actually the initial aggressor. Here is the quote and the link from the article in question: Witnesses said the woman, in her 20s, was set upon after she shoved the man over in the street....An onlooker said: There was a noisy row going on between two men and two women as people flocked out of pubs and nightclubs just after midnight. This girl pushed the bloke and he immediately hit the deck. mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/shocking-moment-woman-left-bloodied-4907260 All of that was totally left out of their second article on the incident and the man was portrayed as the only aggressor and the sole party responsible for the incident. This is inaccurate, reporting. And here is my wording under Clause 12: Clause 12 (Discrimination) The article clearly discriminates against both the man and the woman in the story because it asserts that the woman was a helpless victim which she wasnt she was actually the initial aggressor and it unjustly and inaccurately portrays the man as the sole aggressor and thus seemed motivated to stereotype men.
