I sent this letter to the paper this week, but I am going to share it here because I somewhat doubt it will be published... When I received my YS News this week I was saddened, and somewhat disgusted, to see a front page article about Yellow Springs being a SWAT team member. The paper this week came out on the anniversary of Paul E Schenck’s death; a death that was caused by a SWAT member during a several hour long stand-off at his house. I have two major issues with this article. First, when discussing the events of that evening the paper merely regurgitates the misinformation that the police and the Attorney General have put out. Where is the journalistic integrity? Second, we are a small community; it seems that Ms. Chiddister could have shown a bit of sensitivity by publishing this story on another date. I can only imagine how Paul’s parents felt reading this headline on the anniversary of the day their son died...
