I serve on the City of Inman Zoning and Planning Commission. - TopicsExpress

I serve on the City of Inman Zoning and Planning Commission. Recently I received this message, “Someone told me that Walmart was looking at the old Food Line store with plans to locate in Inman but Bo and the council voted not to allow them to move in. Surely that is another rumor! Any knowledge of this? To keep the citizens of Inman informed is one reason for this Face Book site. I appreciate folks asking questions and will answer if at all possible or let you know where to find the answer. As for the question, procedure is for a new business to contact the Zoning Administrator with intent to come into the City. He then certifies if the business fits the zoning for the area they want to move into. He also provides the contact with pertinent information on what is required for occupancy and businesses within the city limits. The Zoning & Planning Commission gets monthly reports and nothing has been brought up about this so would say a BIG rumor. A business must meet zoning ordinances and if they dont but still want to open, the Commission works with the business. If all else fails, the business goes to the Zoning Appeals Board for a variance. Mayor and Council really have no say if a business meets ordinances. They approved the updated Zoning Manual in September 2011 which is used for planning and current zoning of the City of Inman. This rumor of Wal Mart has been around for several years.
