I served as a Combat Engr. in Vietnam. A jack of all trades, but a master of none. When I first got there, we had a 3day indoctrination, before going to my unit. 15th Combat Engr Bn., Alpha Company. My Company was very diversified. We had Truck Drivers, and thats what my brother Chuck Bailey did. I rode shot gun, anytime I could. We also had River Rat Platoon. When I first got to my unit, we were doing Mine sweeps, on the main road out of bearcat. Didnt have a weapon for 6 wks.. We then did search and Destroy with different infantry, and Armored Cav., 3rd/5th Armored cav.. We blew up Bunkers, and one time an un-exploded Bomb. My squad was supposed to be attached to 101st Airborne, so e learned to repel. We were to repel in,, cut an LZ, them. After our training, someone Changed their mind. I got Pictures, Courtesy of Chuck Bailey. Lost my pictures, slides and other stuff a long time ago, when I was on the road. A whole Duffle bag full of stuff. Made the mistake of shipping it by bus, to where I was going, and it never arrived. A lot of jungle pictures, VC Bunkers, Giant Spiders, Mekong River, in DongTam. We may have gone out with some of you alls units. Always had access to C-4, and later Flex-x. We even had C-3 once. In April of 68, we Moved to Dong Tam. I helped pour one concrete slab, and we started Mine sweeping again, until I got back from R&R. After R&R I had 16 days left, and they wouldnt let me go back to the field. Shit Burner was my new MOS. I was there before, during, and after TET.. We were at three different Fire support bases, and then Dong Tam. I used to have on one of those little reel to reels, and recorded some of it. Ive left out a lot, because I didnt want to fill the hole thread. Peace.. Oh Pictures. Learning to repel and formation, which I was late for, so not in the picture.
