I shared this update with my co-workers today. Kyra liked it so much she asked that I share it with you too. === kyras mom === sent this morning at 6am: This morning is Kyra’s first follow-up appointment after being released from the hospital. We are all so excited to have her walk into the Transplant Clinic on her own two feet, pink cheeked, and without oxygen tanks. She is doing great and we do not anticipate any issues with the visit. Our day does start really early, 6:30, as this will be our first trip to University of Washington Medical Center during rush hour for our first appointment at 7:30---hopefully this gives us enough time. Seattle traffic feels as if it is round-the-clock. I would ask you to wish us luck but I know that you already are. Again, from my family and I, we appreciate all your thoughts, prayers, and especially cheers during Kyra’s new adventure. updated at Noon Woohoo! All went well, we do have another appointment at 1pm. Kyra had a wonderful, fabulous follow-up. The best part, watching her visually and mentally realize that everything is really okay. As much as her dad and I kept telling her she was doing great, she needed that extra reassurance from the transplant team. Her anxiety level dropped tremendously after the visit; hopefully she can rest better at night. She also mentioned to the doctors that she wakes in the night to check her oxygen level because she still cannot believe that she is breathing so easily and effortlessly. They reassured her that all lung transplant patients do the same thing and eventually she will not need too. Some perspective for you all ~ Before her lung transplant she had 20% lung capacity ---- today she is already at 76% and it has only been four weeks since surgery. Before her lung transplant she had to ride in a wheelchair for all the appointments --- today she walked to/from the car and the entire length of the hospital three times for all the appointments. Major strides today --- I love it! #uwmc #donateLife #cfOregon
