I should THINK so!! Eskom has withdrawn its participation at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland. According to a press release by Eskom, it has reviewed its participation at the WEF and made a decision based on business priorities. Eskom CEO Tshediso Matona, chairperson Zola Tsotsi and group executive for sustainability Steve Lennon were set to attend the event, which aims to bring together the world’s financial and political elite. The Sunday Times criticised Eskom for pleading poverty, yet being able to fly the executive team to Switzerland for the event. Eskom said CEO Tshediso Matona’s attendance had already been cancelled on January 9 at his own discretion and prior to questions being asked about Eskom’s attendance at Davos. Tsotsi and Lennon were still confirmed to go at the time of the Sunday report. We have taken note of the public concern and have withdrawn our participation accordingly, Eskom said. Tsotsi and Lennon will therefore not be attending the meeting in Davos. “Matona and the rest of the executive team were not going to attend the Davos meeting and as such are on the ground on a daily basis dealing with Eskom’s current situation,” it said. The embattled supplier is struggling to keep the countrys lights after acknowledging a backlog in maintenance and severe budget constraints. fin24/Economy/Eskom-pulls-out-of-World-Economic-Forum-20150119
