I should be studying right now, but I just got a text and heard about someone saying how you pay for friends in greek life, and I need to get this message out there. If you never have, you certainly know that if you play a sport in high school, college, through a city, or even join a club, you generally have to pay dues in order to keep that organization going. When it comes down to it almost anything you do in life becomes a business and a good business requires funds to keep operating. Greek life, in my personal opinion, is business oriented. Over half of what we do relates back to it. When I pay my dues each semester, I am not paying money to have the opportunity to meet new friends or talk to people. I pay money to keep a (very successful) business running. These dues go towards national headquarters, insurance, and it is also used to fund projects and events that we do (mainly for the community). By taking part in this business, I meet people that enjoy the same things that I do and we have a great time doing it together. Doing charitable things together, and also occasionally having events for our fraternity to bring us closer together; that is what brings us together and makes us life long friends. Not money. I am proud to be apart of my fraternity and it is something I will encourage my kids one day to join. So if you hear someone say, youre paying for friends, tell them what youre really paying for.
