I should point out that when commenting on the talent of someone like Jimmy Page my view is based on my being a songwriter and a studio engineer as well as a player and a fan. In my OPINION, with all that in mind, Page is a brilliant producer whose alchemy virtually built Zeppelins sound from the ground up, coalescing the each of the fours sounds into a mighty force the likes of which had never been seen or heard. And therefore, in my OPINION Page as a producer was the hard rock/metal counterpart to George Martins work with the Beatles. And theres no arguing about his seemingly infinite capacity for inventing timeless riffs as powerful and infectious as those of Chuck Berry and Keith Richards. And that is another criteria I use, those irresistible riffs. maybe I should more accurately say that is is one of the most talented guitarists, but I still place him at the top as a guitarist as well.
