I so appreciate this approach to the subject of racism and white - TopicsExpress

I so appreciate this approach to the subject of racism and white privilege. There is no blaming. Its just a recognition of the SYSTEM of racism. A lot of times, we think that racism doesnt exist, because we dont personally feel racist. Thats not really what racism is all about, though. Its not simply disliking someone based on their skin color. Its much more about the way that racism has been woven into the foundation of our country, beginning with the conquering of the Americas. This system of racism goes beyond the individual and extends into the very structure of our society. Race therefore remains a major factor in housing, family wealth, education, opportunity, and even one’s odds within the criminal justice system. Recognizing racism doesnt mean that I see it in my friends or in you. It means that I see it in the community... and this is a pretty good representation of what I mean when I speak of racism. I know that those of my friends, who happen to be white, dont feel racist towards other ethnicities any more than I do (though, we all struggle with some form of prejudice from time to time). Sometimes, I think we get caught up on the term itself and believe that we or our society is exempt from it, because it doesnt fall within certain confines such as open hostility or segregated water fountains. That is not the type of racism that Im referring to. Ive never experienced that sort of racism... but THIS? Oh, this sort of racism, that functions as a system, Ive known since the moment I could put two and two together. #DocumentaryRecommendation #Free youtu.be/B93CkemacuQ
