I spent Thanksgiving day in my birthplace, Cheraw South Carolina - TopicsExpress

I spent Thanksgiving day in my birthplace, Cheraw South Carolina celebrating with my sisters Dwan Y. McQueen, Jeannie Tyse (Nikki) and Gloria Dennis McQueen, my Dads widow. I even got to see my brother Darin McQueen, my cousins Vermell Cassidy (Landa) and Tracy McQueen as well as fellowship with relatives from as far away as Miami. I dont get to Cheraw often, but as far back (1825) as I can go my roots trace back to Cheraw. My maternal great-great grandparents Calvin Powe and Maria MacIntosh-Powe lived their entire lives in Cheraw. My only son shares the name Evan Powe with their son, who is my great grandfather. Cheraw is also, the birthplace of bebop pioneer and jazz legend John Birks Dizzy Gillespie. His maternal grandfather is Hampson Powe and his paternal grandmother is Lucy MacIntosh-Gillespie. Dizzys parents are James Gillespie, Sr. and Lottie Powe-Gillespie. First time ever doing Thanksgiving in Cheraw, but I greatly enjoyed it. I helped fry two turkeys and saw my sister throw down in the kitchen as usual. I even got to experience early Black Friday at Wal-Mart. Evan just couldnt hold unto his money. I even saw my cousin Ann Powe at Wal-Mart holding it down and keeping order. All in all it was a great day. Ty
