I spent a bit of time reflecting on the passing 4 years ago of one of my musical idols, T Lavitz, keyboard player for one of my all-time favorite bands, the (Dixie) Dregs. I had spent 30 years watching him from the audience in concerts that might easily number around 70. A few years before his untimely death I had the fortune that every fan dreams about: to get to know and befriend the musician they admire. Ill never forget his first visit to my house and me thinking This is T Lavitz and hes RIGHT HERE! One of the things I loved about this guy is that we shared a common trait in that we were both intensely passionate about music and we could spend HOURS talking passionately about musical minutia. Conversations that would probably bore most musicians to tears. An ever bigger thrill was him offering to take me on as a student. Imagine getting lessons from one of your favorite musicians and influences? Im not really sure I CAN imagine what that wouldve been like. So T... wherever you are. Thanks for the all-too-brief thrill of a lifetime. I miss your music, and I miss you. And the solo CDs you gave me are a) precious positions and b) rarely go a month without a complete all-the-way-thru listen. https://youtube/watch?v=VC6TeUxsAQI
