I spent a few minutes tonight trying to figure out how to set my thermostat to away mode. The UI had changed because Nest pushed out an update and now there were icons I didnt recongnize. Its a very strange world we live in now where everything has software. My lightbulbs have software and need security and stability patches. The idea that the consumerization of technology means we need less skilled IT professionals in our institutions is absurd. If anything there is more of a need than ever for professionals to help us navigate this world that doesnt look much different than it did 10 years ago, but just beneath the surface everything has changed.
