I spent a wonderful evening yesterday at a house party as a guest of the Garlick family, the nice young couple who now are the owners of the beautiful home on the corner of Greenwood and Mt. Vernon (yes, the alleged haunted house--which ISNT haunted, by the way). This is the house that I attempted to buy last year. It was a wonderful evening, filled with music, food, and the company of new friends. There was not a ghost in sight! Just a beautiful and historic home that has gotten a bad rap over the years, and now deserves the respect it deserves as one of Marions finest. To set the record straight (once again!): the house is NOT sitting empty (and hasnt in the last 20 years), there are no tunnels underneath it running across Mt. Vernon Ave., there is no Nazi symbol in the attic, it was NOT a part of the Underground Railroad (since it was built in 1895, long after slavery and the U.R. ended), and, most importantly, there are no ghosts and demons running rampant everywhere. The house is in great and competent hands! I know, once again, there will always be rumor-loving people, forever enamored of the mysterious and the macabre, STILL repeating the above silly tales! And I still will be laughing.
