I spent hours in the monolithic Berardo Museum in Lisbon. Two floors of exhibits tell the story of modern art from cubism and Dadaism onwards. This includes Warhols Brillo boxes and Carl Andres blocks. The closer we come to the present day, the weirder the pieces become. The latest make Picasso look like Rembrandt. Finally I found myself studying a Nespresso coffee machine, looking for the name of the artist, trying to understand what he was trying to say about 21st century consumerism. Then I realised. It was a Nespresso coffee machine.
