I spent much of the morning and early afternoon making reminder phone calls to folks who received their absentee ballots over two weeks ago but hadnt returned them. Talked with a dozen or more people, and left messages for a couple of dozen others. Then I joined a friend to canvass a neighborhood in SE Raleigh. The streets were full of kids on their bikes or playing basketball, neighbors were on their front porches, and I must have talked with between fifty and sixty people. And you know what? I found NOT ONE person in a grumpy mood today, or who didnt want to talk with me. Instead, people were glad to see me and told me they were glad for the work I was doing. Someone told me they want to volunteer as well and gave me their number, and by chance I ran into someone who I had volunteered with back in 2012. Without a doubt, the affirmation Ive received has FAR outweighed the occasional negative comments Ive received in the past. I wonder how many folks on the other side of the political aisle can say the same?
