I spent the morning volunteering for Martin Luther King Day and was so proud to see my little Gabriel helping out! I went to see Selma on Friday, and I have to say that one very important and striking factor about the movie is this....50 years ago the Voting Rights Act was passed...and we are now seeing the destruction of that act and the willful indifference to its benefits. In 1965 Dr. King and many marched from Selma to Montgomery so that Black people and other people of color would have the right to vote without facing discrimination at the polls. And now this last election in 2014, the majority of you spit on that movement and sacrifice when you didnt turn out to vote. Dont just remember the good quotes and civil disobedience, acts of nonviolence. Remember the legacy of inequality that our nation faced and continues to face. DO SOMETHING! MAKE HISTORY! Happy MLK Day!
