I spent time in God’s presence this morning, and prayed for my family, and a number of other needs. Then I read the first five chapters of Deuteronomy. Deuteronomy is a Greek word which means “second law.” In Deuteronomy Moses reiterates the history of Israel and the law God gave them. For instance, the fifth chapter of Deuteronomy repeats the Ten Commandments given earlier in the twentieth chapter of Exodus. The more I read the Scriptures the clearer my understanding of them becomes, yet there are some mysteries hard to grasp. Some do not read the Bible diligently because they find it hard to understand, but by doing so they shut themselves off from the greatest book ever written. I do not concern myself with passages difficult to comprehend; in time all will become clear. In the meantime, I find I stay very busy doing what I do understand. “Oh that they had such a heart in them, that they would fear Me and keep My commandments always, that it might be well with them and with their sons forever” Deuteronomy 5:29.
