I spoke with a BSP friend whose father lost the election from East UP . He says a higher percentage of women voted along with youth . The youth went to BJP and many took their families along. And more women voted then men. And they voted BJP too. Women see a lot of TV serials . And Modi flooded TV channels. My friend also said that it is definitely becoming more US style even at state levels. Akhilesh also managed a well-hyped western style campaign last time in UP . He sees candidates face-offs soon , in public debates . He sees that this style will be tried for maybe 2-3 elections. But if there is little delivery , people will go back to caste-based parties. But this is for sure . Modi broke the caste-barriers like never before . Women surpassed men voters for the first time in eight states and union territories in the 2014 general elections. We see this as a result of our increased awareness drive for exercising ones franchise, Akshay Rout, Director General at the Election Commission, told IANS. The states and union territories where women voted in more numbers as compared to men are Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Chandigarh, Odisha, Puducherry, Punjab, Sikkim and Uttarakhand. The gender gap has reduced to 2.14 percentage points in 2014 from 4.42 in 2009. This comes despite the fact that women in india remain under-represented in parliament.
