I stand with my friend Samir Gupta in Ghaziabad (near Delhi), who has filed an FIR with the police against the lawyers who attacked him and his elderly father at the district courts. Just because, not realising there was a lawyers strike, they asked for directions to the court room he had been summoned to for some minor traffic challan. They pushed and beat both men, fractured Samirs hand, smashed his spectacles and pushed him into a dirty ditch. Police initially refused to register the FIR because it was against lawyers, and eventually did so, warning Samir that the lawyers would probably file a counter case against him and there would be nothing they could do about it. This is goodna gardi, desi style. Shame on these lawyers and policemen who are supposed to uphold the law and instead terrorise innocent citizens. p.s. Samir is one of the voluntary admins of the Aman ki Asha facebook group. He is a dear friend who was incredibly helpful when I was in Delhi last, couldnt have managed without him, and he is a gem of a person who is always helping others.
