I start work at 8:30 a.m. One of my first tasks is to take care of faxes that came in overnight. 8:40 I call the health care provider: Good morning, I am calling because we were sent a fax without a doctors name. I have 27 doctors in my office and would like to know who to give it to. them: Thank you for calling, can I have the paitent id #? me: 12345 them: Thank you, can I have the paitent name? me: joe shmoe them: Thank you, can I have our client id #? me: abc qpt them: thank you, can I have the doctors name please? me: that is what im calling to find out them: oh. Ok, then can I have the doctors NPI? me: I would give it to you, but I dont know which doctor this is for. them: Well Maam I cant give you the doctors name w/o the NPI #. me: All that is on the fax cover sheet is OUR fax number and the paitent information. I need YOU to tell ME which doctor it goes to so the doctor can approve the change in their medication. them: Without the NPI number Maam, I cant help you. me: Can I speak with your supervisor please. Repeat the above conversation until I ask for supervisor. them: maam we cannot give you any infomation without the NPI. Thank you for understanding. me: I dont understand. Have a good day. CLICK. Time: 9:15 CAN I GO HOME NOW? I have too much work for this C**P. I call back, me: Good morning, I am calling because we were sent a fax without a doctors name. May I please have the patient ID and medication name. me: I give them info. them: Thank you, the prescribing doctor is Dr. Frankenstien. me: Thank you, Have a wonderful Day. them: Happy Holidays. click. REALLY????? (NAMES AND NUMBERS CHANGED TO PROTECT THE INNOCENT AND STUPID)
