I started the day by changing the sweeper arm and packer blade - TopicsExpress

I started the day by changing the sweeper arm and packer blade hydraulic rams on a 26,000 lb. curb tending garbage truck...oh I feel so glamorous. Next I moved over to do a hydraulic valve assembly solenoid mass block on another trash collection apparatus...life is good!!! After that tires, which can change your religion if handled wrong, needed to be replaced on the fore mentioned vehicle. Just when I thought the day couldnt get anymore exciting I assisted in the withdrawal of a faulty bed lift cylinder on a old dump truck. There are two pins that need to be extracted before any serious attempt can occur. The top pin had a slight deformity but was persuaded to eject itself after multiple sledge hammer percussions. The bottom pin was holding the shape of a crankshaft in protest and would not budge but after a few hours of gently blowing oxygen onto a pinpoint fire dispensing device both sides of the crankshaft had been melted away. The extraction process required the use of chains in a choker configuration and a 3 ton overhead crane but after two attempts and two broken chains the head mechanic left for the day. Being a proactive individual I took it upon myself to finish the job. I arranged the chains laterally and pulled on the whole cylinder leaving no possibility for any slippage. As I started pulling with the crane trumpets started blasting and the walls started crumbling but before I brought the house down a clevis pin broke and another chain gave out. Everyone came running to see who had died including the head mechanic who felt the ground move as he was mounting his motorcycle. Several people lost control of their bladders and one his sphincter as the garage roof settled back into position. Oh boy I hope tomorrow they let me fix the waste oil heat transfer unit!!!
