I started the day with a Union Jack and at the end of the day it - TopicsExpress

I started the day with a Union Jack and at the end of the day it is time to reflect. Now dont get me wrong the result was correct as far as I am concerned but, accepting half the scots, there are 3 big losers. 1) Scottish politics has lost an excellent politician who single handedly ran rings around the leaders of the 3 big parties. He may have lost the vote but the major concessions he got out of it will change British politics forever. 2) the Labour Party - Tories who are smarting at Cameron for nearly giving away the union are now baying for blood. By demanding equal rights for the English, Welsh and Irish we will soon be in the position in which a Labour majority in the house, with a labour cabinet and PM, will be unable to get any English policies endorsed by the house as they will never have a majority without the Scottish labour MPs. This means the the English will have exactly the problem that the nationalists have complained about I.e. A dominant Tory government without a majority. 3) we can discount Clegg as he is now politically irrelevant so what about the other 2? Cameron almost lost his head for calling the vote when he was running scared, something he seems good at. The only hard decisions he is capable of making are those against people who cant defend themselves. Classic Flashman! Ed Milliband. Who? I hear you cry. Where was he? I never thought I could ever bring myself to admire Gordon Brown but his passionate speeches on Tuesday were not what I expected. If Milliband wanted to make a mark, he shouldnt have relied on GB. So in the end, in political terms, the best man lost and is now out of work. Now a confession. Me being English I didnt have a vote in the matter but I sincerely hope that I NEVER AGAIN find myself on the same side of an argument as Nigel Farage OR in opposition the the Green Party. The saving grace for all UK citizens is that it was clearly a decision made by the Scots alone. As for a return match, it shouldnt happen for at least 20 years. It was costly to ALL taxpayers and if those who lost, want to keep repeating it until they get the result they want, we may as well give up on the Union now! The Scottish people voted for the union with a 10% majority. That is conclusive enough.
