I started this petition to help keep Sandyʻs as Sandys , Sandy Beach Park and if it needs to be officially renamed, then Awāwamalu or Wāwāmalu . I began this today in response to KHNLʻs story about efforts from Honolulu City Council Members wanting to rename it after President Obama. I humbly openly ask any kumu, kūpuna, or whomever feels theyʻre more appropriate to spearhead this effort. Someone more familiar with the history and moʻolelo would definitely be ideal, but Iʻm hoping to get the ball rolling and and then yield control as needed. Ultimately, I would love for this beachʻs official name to be ma ka ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi (in Hawaiian language), and full heartedly believe it should *not* be named after the President. Iʻve never made a petition before, so here goes. . .
