I started to watch this video a while back but his attitude and misunderstanding of science annoyed me. Someone showed it to me again because they thought he made some good arguments. I forced myself to watch it in its entirety so that I could comment on it. First we must define the difference between a theory in science and a theory in everyday life. In science, a theory is a conclusion based on observable evidence. You dont need to physically observe an object or an event to know that it exists or it happened. We can observe the effects of that object or event. For instance, gravity is also a theory. We can not see gravity either but we can observe the results of gravity. Drop a rock and you will of course see it fall to the ground. Gravity pulled the object toward the earth. We dont actually see gravity but we see its effects. When black holes were discovered we never saw anything. We simply observed the gravitational effects that it had on the objects near it. We knew that the massive gravitational effects had to be caused by something. For example, when gas orbits around a black hole it tends to get very hot because of friction. It then starts emitting X-rays and radio waves. We see the effects of the black hole but since its gravity is so massive not even visible let can escape its clutches we cant physically observe it. Theists readily accept these theories because they dont challenge their belief system. When this man calls evolution a theory, he makes it sound like a hypothesis. A hypothesis is an idea someone has before it is tested or supported by evidence. The evidence for evolution is so overwhelming that its apparent that this man either hasnt researched the evidence or is just intentionally trying to mislead people. If you have a basic understanding of the science behind evolution his misunderstanding of it can be seen by just watching the video. No one has ever claimed that the Big Bang caused the creation of one cell. He clearly has no understanding of the Big Bang theory either. Neither do any scientists claim that we develop different characteristics and traits because we willed it. Mutations happen randomly all of the time and are not based on the will of those they affect. Mutations that help a species survive better than a group of that species that doesnt have the mutation is what makes one groups existence continue while the other dies off. You can have bad mutations just as well as good ones. We see the good ones because they are the group that continued to procreate when their environments changed and pass on their genes. Those who cannot adapt to changes in their environment will not be able to pass on their genes because they die before they have the opportunity to procreate or even if they do, their faulty genes ensure the extinction of those descendants. His misuse of the third law of the thermodynamics saying that order can not come out of chaos is yet another misunderstanding at best or a blatant intention to mislead people at worst. Any order that you see in the world is always temporary. The earth revolves around the sun every year, seemingly the same way that it always has. One day our sun will explode and the order we saw on a small scale is suddenly gone. Asteroids, meteors and even rogue planets sail through the cosmos with no order to them. They are the result of violent explosions and collisions that knock them out of solar systems and can definitely not be considered part of any order Order does not allow for unintentional or unforeseen events. If there were perfect order, we could predict where every lightning bolt would hit or where every tornado that he speaks of will touch down. His comparison of a tornado, which lasts for maybe an hour, assembling a car, to the billions of years of evolution spawning life is laughable. Its comparing apples to oranges. If you want to compare apples to apples, a tornado creating a perfectly working car would be the equivalents of scientists claiming that the Bang spawned a perfectly working human. He claims that the creation of life could not be the result of a random series of events and that it takes more faith to believe that than it does to believe that life has a creator. A random series of events are responsible for the very most basic form of life. From this very basic form of life, evolved everything else which is much more complex. If we entertain the idea that life has a creator, then we are faced with some very inconvenient truths. If an intelligent creator spawned life, why is 99% of their creation now extinct? Yes, 99% of all life that has existed on earth is extinct. Does that design seem intelligent to anyone? We humans share more than 98% of our DNA with chimpanzees. Why is that? Did we evolve from monkeys? No, evolution doesnt make the claim the we evolved from monkeys. Anyone who tells you that is does hasnt been educated on the subject or is intentionally misleading you. Humans and chimpanzees share a common ancestor. One evolutionary path went one way while another evolutionary path went another. These evolutionary paths were the result of mutations that allowed both the ancestors of the chimpanzees and the ancestors of humans to adapt to changes in their environments. In short, this guy is an idiot like the original atheist who spoke with him claimed.
