I still have a big article coming out tonight at 8 pm ET, which will be posted on the Firsthand Weather website (firsthandweather). You definitely dont want to miss it! I want to point out a few things, and Ill be going into much more detail tonight in the article. 1) EVERYONE is going to start talking about the major cold that could be on the way for the last week of January going into February. I say this a lot, but only trust the sources that have been hinting at this for a while now (which arent many). Its easy to hype all of this up once model guidance starts suggesting something, but that isnt a forecast. Anybody putting out these forecasts need to understand WHY this is happening. 2) With that said, I am more convinced than ever that we have brutal cold on the way. It lines up nicely with when I thought this was going to occur, and now model guidance is in agreement. IF we get the kind of cold towards the end of this month that is being projected, then this month, as a whole, could be colder than last January. 3) I am continuing to watch a potential winter storm in about 8 to 10 days. This could be the big one! I feel confident that a storm will occur around that timeframe, but it is a matter of where exactly it will track. That will have a lot to do with the upper-level blocking, and how favorable things become for big East Coast storms around that time. Its important to understand that this is still a ways out, but this has my attention more than any other storm so far this winter. Also, this likely wont be the last storm this winter. 4) Its important to take the Firsthand Weather forecasts responsibly. For the many of you who have been following my forecasts, you know that I have been very bullish on this being a memorable winter and think that the period we are entering into will be the most memorable part of this winter. However, theres always the chance that Im wrong. It doesnt hurt to plan ahead, but its also important to note that there are certain variables that can easily be overlooked. For the record, most everyone changed their forecasts to being warm in January, and it has been very cold. Now all we need is some snow to go along with that cold. Again, Ill have that article out tonight at 8 pm ET! -Matthew
